Pregnancy Personal Training FAQs
Some of the common questions my new clients ask when they're thinking about starting with me.
Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy? Yes! Exercise during pregnancy is not only safe but also beneficial when done correctly. It can help with energy levels, reduce back pain, improve posture, and even make labour and recovery easier. The key is knowing what’s right for your body at each stage. Some movements should be avoided, while others can be modified as your pregnancy progresses. I have specialist qualifications in pregnancy fitness and will guide you through safe, tailored workouts that support you and your baby. If you have any health concerns, we’ll work together to create a plan that’s right for you. What type of exercises will we do in the sessions? Every session is built around your fitness level, stage of pregnancy, and how you’re feeling that day. We’ll focus on gentle strength training, core stability, pelvic floor exercises, mobility work, and low-impact cardio. The goal is to keep you strong and comfortable while preparing your body for labour and postnatal recovery. If you have specific concerns - such as pelvic girdle pain, backache, or swollen joints -we’ll adjust the exercises to ensure they’re safe and effective for you. Whether you want to keep up your fitness or just move in a way that feels good, we’ll find the right balance. Can I do pregnancy personal training if I’ve never exercised before? Absolutely! You don’t need to be fit or have any previous experience with exercise to benefit from pregnancy personal training. Many mums-to-be start exercising for the first time during pregnancy because they want to stay strong, reduce discomfort, or prepare for labour. My sessions are gentle, accessible, and tailored to your needs, so whether you’re brand new to fitness or used to working out regularly, we’ll find a pace that works for you. My goal is to help you feel confident and comfortable in your body throughout pregnancy, no matter your starting point. When is the best time to start pregnancy personal training? You can start training at any stage of pregnancy. Some women begin in the first trimester to help with energy levels and morning sickness, while others start later when their bump begins to affect movement and posture. There’s no right or wrong time - it’s all about what feels good for you. If you’re unsure, we can have a chat before your first session to discuss how you’re feeling and what your goals are. Whether you’re looking to stay active from the very start or need support later in pregnancy, I’ll be here to help. What if I’m experiencing pelvic girdle pain or other pregnancy discomforts? Pelvic girdle pain (PGP), backache, swollen ankles, and other pregnancy-related discomforts are common, but they don’t have to stop you from moving. In fact, the right kind of exercise can often help. We’ll focus on gentle movements, strength-building exercises, and posture work to relieve pressure and keep your body feeling as comfortable as possible. Every session is tailored to how you’re feeling that day, so if something isn’t working, we’ll modify or switch things up. I’ve worked with many mums who have SPD, diastasis recti, and other pregnancy-related conditions, so you’ll be in safe hands. Can I bring my toddler or older child to the sessions? Yes! I know that childcare can be a challenge, which is why I make my pregnancy personal training sessions as flexible as possible. If you have a toddler or older child at home, they’re more than welcome to be there while we train. Whether they’re playing nearby, watching, or even joining in with some of the movements, we’ll make it work. Sessions can be held at your home, in a local park, or wherever feels best for you, so you don’t have to worry about arranging childcare just to fit in a workout. Do I need any equipment? No, I bring everything you need! Whether we’re training at your home or outdoors in a local park, I’ll come with all the necessary equipment - including mats, resistance bands, light weights, and any other accessories we might need. If you have your own equipment and would like to use it, that’s great too. My sessions focus on functional movements and strength-building exercises that don’t require a gym - just a little bit of space and a willingness to move. How do I get started with pregnancy personal training? Getting started is easy. Just send me a message or give me a call, and we’ll arrange a chat about your needs, pregnancy stage, and any specific concerns you have. From there, we can book your first session at a time and place that works for you. Whether you’re looking for regular sessions or just a one-off session to learn how to exercise safely on your own, I’ll help you find the best approach. There’s no pressure, just friendly, supportive guidance to help you stay strong, active, and confident throughout pregnancy.
